Manolo was a Spanish migrant, a painter, and someone who took great comfort in the food of his homeland.
Manolo was also my dad.
He migrated to Australia in 1963, where he and my mum got to work providing a better life for their childre. Manolo worked on jobs like the Snowy Mountain Hydro Scheme and the Royal Australian Mint, and while my folks built a great life for themselves and us kids, they always had their homeland in their hearts. The only way they were able to get that sense of home was through food - and that’s exactly what we aim to celebrate and share at Manolo’s.
I’m Alex, and my wife Nicole and I have been in hospitality in Canberra for the last 20 years. You might know us and our three kids as the owners of Fox and Bow in Farrer, an extension of our home and the place where we serve excellent coffee and uncomplicated tasty food to the people of Woden Valley.
We hope that Manolo’s brings you incredible coffee, delicious, unpretentious food and above all, great memories and a sense of comfort.
